Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for weekly holiday pay?
Any worker — full-time, part-time, or contract — whose weekly scheduled hours average 15 or more over a 4-week period and who attends all scheduled workdays that week is entitled to weekly holiday pay. Workers with fewer than 15 scheduled hours per week are not eligible.
How is weekly holiday pay calculated?
For standard full-time workers (40 hours/week, 8 hours/day), weekly holiday pay is 8 hours × hourly wage. For part-time workers, the formula is 8 hours × (your weekly scheduled hours ÷ 40). For example, a worker with 20 scheduled hours per week receives 8 × (20 ÷ 40) = 4 hours' worth of pay.
Does working more than 40 hours per week increase weekly holiday pay?
No. Weekly holiday pay is capped at 8 hours (one day's pay). Even if you worked 52 hours in a week, weekly holiday pay is still calculated as 8 hours × hourly wage. (Overtime pay is calculated separately.)
What happens to weekly holiday pay if I am absent?
In principle, if you are absent on even one scheduled workday during the week, weekly holiday pay for that week does not accrue. However, tardiness or early departure is generally not treated as an absence. This calculator shows the amount assuming perfect attendance only.
Do salaried employees receive weekly holiday pay separately?
For salaried employees, weekly holiday pay is typically already folded into the monthly salary, so it often doesn't appear as a separate line item on the pay stub. Hourly and daily-wage workers, by contrast, are paid it separately as this calculator shows. Check your employment contract to see which applies to you.
If I work multiple part-time jobs, can I earn weekly holiday pay at each?
Yes. Eligibility is assessed separately at each workplace. If you work at more than one job, you can earn weekly holiday pay independently at each employer, as long as you meet the 15-hours-per-week and full-attendance conditions at that specific workplace.
